Surrey Inter-club Leagues
This summer we entered two teams into the Surrey Summer League, one in Division 5R (captained by Kevin Connors) and, for the first time, a second team in Division 8 (captained by Robert Orr Ewing). Current positions are 4th (ex 8) for 5R, and top (ex 9) in Division 8 with a good prospect of winning this division and being promoted. 5R will complete their fixture by end-August and 8 by end-September (team results and division positions can be followed at https://county.leaguemaster.co.uk )
The matches have been well-subscribed and player communication has worked well through the Whatsapp chat. Special thanks to Kevin and Robert for arranging the teams and to Mark Wright for coordinating the fixtures.
We will enter again one team in the winter league, since court and player availability is insufficient to enter a second team when considering also the social match fixtures (see below). Last year, we finished 4th in Division 5R, solidly mid-table.
Players need to be pre-registered to participate in the leagues and any new members wishing to participate in the winter league should inform Mark Wright.
Winter Club Social Matches
These matches against other local clubs (home and away), whilst fiercely competitive on court, are primarily social fixtures and always followed by a good meal and a few drinks.
Although the 21/22 season was slightly Covid affected, we managed 16 fixtures and after a shaky start ended the season with a positive win-loss ratio of P16, W8, L7, D1.
The team is open to members of all standards and we do our best to balance teams with the opposition to ensure that all players get a decent game. Last season more than 25 different players turned out for Sheen, special thanks to Peter Marr and Mark Wright for arranging the teams.
We have a full fixture list for the 22/23 season with 21 confirmed matches between late September and March. All are welcome to put their names forward for these matches, and requests for players will be sent out in early September for the first set of fixtures.
